Winks Snowa Architects was founded by Edward H. Winks in 1977. The firm office has been located near Richmond’s Shockoe Valley and Church Hill historic districts since its inception. James D. Snowa joined the firm in 1978, and now serves with Ed as one of the firm’s two principal architects.
Multifamily dwellings, senior living communities and student housing are the primary design focus at Winks Snowa. However, the combined architectural and design portfolio of the staff includes new work and renovations of religious, commercial, residential, and institutional facilities; master planning for educational facilities, research and development facilities; industrial facilities, fixed base airport operations, aircraft hangars, healthcare, corporate headquarters, and campus master planning.
Winks Snowa uses computer aided design as the primary production tool for architectural documents. The firm employs innovative hardware and software to maximize project efficiency and to expedite project delivery.
Design and technical criteria are complementary considerations within the office. Aesthetic issues are informed by structural decisions, building codes and budgetary issues. This integrated approach to the design process provides Winks Snowa’s clients with unique projects that are tailored to their needs while meeting regulatory requirements. The resulting projects are attractive, functional and cost effective.
